June 30, 2024 – Atlanta, Georgia – Hundreds of Georgia CTI students gathered at Truist Park on June 30, 2024, to participate in GVRA's Day with the Braves. This event provided an enriching experience filled with educational opportunities and an exciting baseball game between the Atlanta Braves and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The day began with an insightful Employability Panel discussion. Katie Hearn, along with other panel members, shared various employment opportunities within the Braves organization. Many students initially thought that working for the Braves meant becoming a baseball player or manager. However, Ms. Hearn enlightened them about diverse roles available in the arts, hospitality, mechanics, engineering, and many more fields.
An essential part of the day focused on financial literacy. Each student received a ticket and a voucher with spending money for the day, courtesy of Georgia CTI. Teachers and chaperones guided students on how to manage their money, emphasizing that the voucher could be used outside the park. This lesson in financial understanding is crucial as our students prepare to build their futures.
Following the panel, students enjoyed the thrilling game between the Atlanta Braves and the Pittsburgh Pirates. For many, it was their first visit to the stadium, and the excitement was tangible. The event was covered by Atlanta News First, featuring two Georgia CTI students from Bartow County in their news segment.
Overall, the day was a tremendous success for Georgia CTI and GVRA. Georgia CTI extends deep appreciation to all contributors—Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (GVRA), Georgia Department of Education, Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education staff (CTAE), CTI Coordinators, ParaProfessionals, bus drivers, volunteers, and the Atlanta Braves staff—for making this day memorable for our students.
