What Is Pre-ETS and Why It Matters for Students with Disabilities in Georgia

If you’ve ever wondered how students with disabilities can start preparing for life after high school before graduation day shows up, you’re not alone. That’s exactly where Pre-Employment Transition Services, or Pre-ETS, comes in.

Pre-ETS is designed to help students with disabilities begin thinking about their future early, usually starting around age 14. In Georgia, these services are provided through the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (GVRA) and focus on helping students explore careers, build confidence, and learn real-world skills. And the best part? Pre-ETS supports students no matter what their plans are after high school. College, technical school, employment, training programs, or independent living paths are all valid and supported.

So why does Pre-ETS matter so much? Because planning ahead makes a difference. Many students don’t know what options are available to them, or they don’t realize how their strengths can translate into a job or career. Pre-ETS helps students connect the dots between school, work, and adult life while they still have time to explore in a safe, supportive environment.

At the heart of Pre-ETS are five key areas. Job exploration helps students learn what kinds of jobs exist and which ones might be a good fit. Work-based learning gives students hands-on experiences that go beyond the classroom. Counseling on postsecondary opportunities helps students understand what comes after high school, whether that’s college, training, or something else. Workplace readiness focuses on skills like communication, teamwork, and professionalism. Self-advocacy teaches students how to speak up for themselves, ask for what they need, and understand their rights.

Pre-ETS isn’t just talk and worksheets. It often includes tours and field trips that bring learning to life. Students might visit places like Roosevelt Warm Springs, tour local businesses, explore training programs, or meet community partners. These experiences help students see real possibilities and imagine themselves in new roles they may not have considered before.

This is where Georgia CTI plays a powerful role. CTI brings together experienced educators and professionals who truly care about helping students reach their highest potential. Our instructors understand the wide range of options available to students with disabilities and work closely with schools, families, and partners to make sure students don’t feel boxed into one path. We believe every student deserves the chance to explore, grow, and feel confident about their future.

For teachers and parents, Pre-ETS is a tool that supports what you’re already doing. It connects learning to real life, encourages independence, and helps students build skills they’ll use long after graduation.

If you’re interested in learning more or bringing Pre-ETS to your school, we’d love to talk with you. Please email georgiacti@gmail.com to start the conversation.
