Inside the State Leadership Conference: What Students Can Expect

The Georgia CTI State Leadership Conference (SLC) is one of the most exciting and memorable experiences of the year. For many students, it is their first time stepping into a large conference setting, meeting new people, and trying something completely new. Whether it’s your first time attending or you’ve been before, SLC offers something for everyone.

One of the biggest parts of SLC is the opportunity to compete. Students from across the state bring their Competitive Event Portfolios (CPEs) and present their projects to judges. This includes a mock interview component where students talk about their work, what they’ve learned, and the skills they’ve developed. It’s a chance to practice communication, build confidence, and receive feedback in a supportive environment. Awards for these competitions are presented during the conference, recognizing the hard work students have put in throughout the year.

In addition to competition, students can participate in the leadership track. These sessions focus on building important skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Students learn how to lead, how to work with others, and how to grow both personally and professionally. These are skills that will carry over into school, work, and everyday life.

SLC is also a time to connect with others. Students have the chance to meet peers from across Georgia, make new friends, and build relationships that often last well beyond the conference. Being surrounded by students who are all working toward their goals creates a positive and encouraging environment.

There are also many fun activities built into the experience. Students can enjoy time outdoors with activities like canoeing, fishing, and playing basketball. In the evenings, events like the talent show and silent disco give students a chance to relax, have fun, and celebrate their talents. These moments help balance the more structured parts of the conference and create lasting memories.

Another exciting part of SLC is the State Officer elections. Students who are interested in leadership have the opportunity to campaign, share their ideas, and run for a state officer position. This process helps students develop confidence, public speaking skills, and a sense of responsibility as they represent their peers.

Overall, the State Leadership Conference is about more than just competition or activities. It is about stepping outside of your comfort zone and trying something new. It is about learning how to meet new people, speak up, and take on challenges with confidence. SLC provides a safe and supportive environment where students can grow, learn essential life skills, and discover what they are capable of.

For many students, SLC becomes a highlight of their CTI experience. It is a place where hard work is recognized, friendships are formed, and confidence begins to grow.
